Borussia Dortmund Reaches UEFA Champions League Semi-Finals

Dortmund's Historic Run Continues

Borussia Dortmund have reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 11 years, defeating Newcastle United 2-0 in the quarter-finals to extend their impressive run in the competition. Niclas Fullkrüg and Julian Brandt scored the goals for Dortmund, who dominated the match from start to finish and deservedly booked their place in the last four.

Dortmund Dominates Newcastle

Dortmund started the match brightly and should have taken the lead in the early stages, but Jude Bellingham's shot was saved by Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope. However, the German side eventually broke the deadlock in the 30th minute when a fine cross from Mats Hummels found Fullkrüg, who headed home from close range. Dortmund continued to press for more goals and were rewarded in the 79th minute when Brandt curled a magnificent shot into the top corner.

Newcastle's Champions League Dream Ends

Newcastle's Champions League debut ended in disappointment as they were unable to match Dortmund's intensity and quality. The English side created few clear-cut chances and were ultimately outclassed by a superior Dortmund team. Despite the defeat, Newcastle can be proud of their run to the quarter-finals, which included an impressive victory over Inter Milan in the group stage.

Dortmund Aiming for UCL Glory

Dortmund will now face Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, with the first leg to be played on April 25th. The German side will be confident of causing an upset against the reigning champions, especially given their impressive form in the competition so far. Dortmund last reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2013, when they lost to Bayern Munich in the final. They will be hoping to go one step further this time and lift the trophy for the first time since 1997.
